This form will calculate the MLS Grdisquare using the Maidenhead Locator System. This is used by amateur radio operators to share positions.
Note that the MGRS (Military Grid Reference System), which is what our military uses, is more characters than MLS. This is why we use it in amateur radio. I know — the MGRS Grid is easer to determine from a map which is why the military uses it.
Clearly, my math has way too much precision for the accuracy. That many decimal places (coming from the browser location) implies µm accuracy! Most phone GPSs are only accurate to about 3 m. The 8-character MLS string describes a box 245 m x 463 m. If we added two more digits we would be a 19 m x 14 m box.
